The Arabic alphabet consists of 28 letters and is written from right to left. It is used in Arabic-speaking countries and has been adapted by several other languages. Each letter has different forms depending on its position in a word—initial, medial, final, or isolated. Arabic letters connect to each other in cursive script, making the writing fluid and continuous.
The alphabet doesn’t include vowels as separate letters. Instead, short vowels are represented by diacritical marks placed above or below the letters. Long vowels, however, are part of the alphabet.
Arabic script has a rich history and plays a significant role in Islamic culture, especially in calligraphy. Each letter has its own unique sound, and some letters represent sounds that don’t exist in English, making it both challenging and fascinating to learn.
